As kids get older it's had to plan for snacks, or at least I think so. My husband just says just throw whatever is in the cupboard in a bag and give it to them. I think, sure and let them throw it on the floor of the van. Nope. We are going to be in there for hours.
A list of some special and relatively healthy snacks for kids of every age.
1. Dehydrated fruit You can buy fresh fruit and do it yourself or buy dried fruit from the store.
2. Small snack packages Kids always feel special with these. They are just the right size too. We only buy them for these occasions. i.e. figs, teddy grams, pretzels, sandwich crackers
3. String cheese or single serving cheese These are perfect. Kids, even teenagers love the string cheese and it can keep them busy for up to 1/2 hour.
4. Fresh, pre cut vegetables and fruit You can get these from cooler sections in the fruit and veggie section of the store and they are prepackaged. i.e. grapes, apples, carrots, celery, etc.
5. Cereal Toddlers love this one. Any cereal with shapes including Cheerios. They have new ones now with letters.
6. Mini sandwiches Older children can handle this much better than the young ones. You can put anything you want in these. PB and J to ham and cheese. If you add any mayo or mustard make sure you put it between the meat and cheese and not on the bread. You don't want the bread all mushy. That goes for PB and J too. Put PB on both slices and J in the middle.
7. Snack bags This is an old stand by in our home, but we mix it up for trips. I add different snack to it like popcorn, nuts, and m & m's to make it more fun.
8. Gogurt Not every parent likes these because of the content and that is okay, but they are en easy way to get protein to your kids on the go.
